Business Etiquette Presentation by JMBEC Director, Mr. Alvin, at MJRC

On December 19, 2023, Mr. Alvin, Director of JM Business Ethics Consultancy Sdn. Bhd. (JMBEC), a part of the eeevo group, conducted a presentation on business etiquette at the Malaysia-Japan Research Center (MJRC), drawing from his personal experiences in Japan.



The Malaysia-Japan Research Center (MJRC) is a key institution aimed at promoting academic and cultural exchanges between Malaysia and Japan, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation between the two nations.

On December 19, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM, a seminar was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan relations. The seminar was themed around the influence and practice of Japanese culture in Malaysia. It was attended by approximately 40 participants, including students and professors from the University of Malaya, representatives of the Japan Foundation, and the general public.

Mr. Alvin, based on his 17 years of living experience in Japan, presented on the differences in business etiquette between Malaysia and Japan. He focused particularly on the methods of bowing and exchanging business cards, sharing his interpretation of these uniquely Japanese cultural aspects. His presentation highlighted the unique facets of Japanese culture and discussed how these customs could be adapted to the Malaysian business environment.

Other presenters discussed various topics, including Japanese pop culture, haiku, and the challenges faced by Japanese working in Malaysia. These sessions provided opportunities to explore the cultural differences between Japan and Malaysia and further deepen cultural exchanges between the two countries.

The seminar saw active participation, with lively questions and discussions, leading to new insights into the cultural differences between Japan and Malaysia. Discussions also revolved around mutual understanding and methods of application. JMBEC reaffirmed the importance of raising awareness of etiquette in Malaysia through this seminar. The organization continues to strive towards combining the best of Japanese and Malaysian manners to promote a high consciousness of etiquette. This event served as a cultural bridge between the two countries, proving to be a significant time for enhancing intercultural understanding and cooperation.
